Job Description

 POSITION TITLE:                   AgScience/ Chemical Toxicity Veterinary Technician
LOCATION:                             TriMetis, Memphis, TN

  • Perform assigned technical and administrative functions within the guidelines/requirements outlined in a protocol or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Perform duties and procedures necessary for the completion of research protocols, including Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) studies.
  • Experience with Toxicity studies for EPA tests,  comfortable conducting dermal, oral and eye toxicity studies
  • Gather samples in accordance with protocol or Standard Operating Procedures
  • Administration of test compounds by IV, IM, SQ, topical, oral routes, etc. to animals
  • Competent with dosing methodologies for various species
  • Conduct observations and health checks
  • Assist with and perform basic necropsy procedures (basic dissection, tissue collection/preservation, sample collection, etc.).
  • Record and gather test data from which to evaluate the efficacy or toxicity of a test compound and prepare reports.
  • Demonstrate compliance to regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; must demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate and work with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds. Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Good organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines; must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow-through. 
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Must demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout facility, must be able and willing to maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and utilize protective gear.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50lbs repetitively on a daily basis
  • Must be able to work variable schedules including weekends and holidays


  • High School diploma or GED
  • Ag Science experience
  • Literate in written and spoken English
  • American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or Technologist (LATG) level with at least 3 years’ experience with EPA/ toxicity testing or equivalent experience.
