JOB TITLE:                NIMH Research Support Technician IV                  Bethesda, MD
Priority One Services is seeking applicants to support a lab within the National Institutes of Mental Health. Candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of molecular biology techniques. Understanding and the ability to apply techniques used in transgenic animal production and veterinary medicine technology are required. The ability to independently manage laboratory procedures is necessary. Must be able to work independently and communicate well.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Work Assignments are based on work requirements to meet the contract needs, which may include the following duties:

  • The ability to collect physiological data and accurately enter the information in medical records.
  • Handling and restraint of animals for observation and/or minor procedures. Ability to assist in rodent surgical procedures and anesthesia. Ability to monitor the health and well-being of animals.
  • Husbandry experience. Rodent Breeding Colony Management. Ability to work with rodents and non-human primates.
  • Assist investigators or perform technical procedures in the laboratory as time permits.
  • Leader in coordination in intra- and inter-lab collaboration.
  • Design and conduct experiments and technical reports, contribute to grant applications
  • All other duties as assigned.

Note: Additional duties are required, but are not listed here and are beyond the scope of this announcement. These duties will be reviewed during the interview process.

  • Formal education shall include a min PhD, MS or a BS with experience of 10 years or more.
  • A working knowledge of computers, common computer applications (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) word processing/e-mailing skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate using written and spoken English
  • The use of appropriate medical terminology.
  • Hands-on experience in lab assays.
  • Technical skills (laboratory): molecular biology procedures and overall understanding and application to producing transgenic DNA and RNA constructs.
  • Technical skills (veterinary medicine) blood collection, injections, biopsy, sample preparation, perfusions, animal health and enrichment)
  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license.
