Job Description

JOB TITLE: Training Coordinator/Laboratory Animal Trainer II
Work Assignments are based on work requirements to meet the contract needs, which may include the following duties:

  1. Provide competent and responsible direction of Contractor staff in support of specific Task Orders within the facility.
  2. Will provide general supervision and control of staff resources, accomplishment of performance goals, submittal of contract deliverables, compliance with facility SOP’s, and maintenance of a health and safety program.
  3. Present or assist in training classes as needed.
  4. Develop and implement training plans for Task Order personnel in accordance with the Task Order specific SOP’s.
  5. Provide ongoing technical training to include safety procedures and requirements.
  6. Provide AALAS certification classes.
  7. Develop and maintain a database of all training received by all Task Order staff.
  8. Assure that all employees maintain their technical competence.
  9. May interview potential applicants for open positions.
  10. Maintain employee performance documentation.
  11. Will draft and review facility SOP’s.
  12. Work with Project Officers on animal facility matters.
  13. Collaborate with client on development and oversite of training initiatives. 
  14. Work with subordinate employees to ensure that all work is performed according the task Statement of Work.
  15. Provide research clerical support and/or data entry/data base report generation for computerized systems which monitor facility internal environmental parameters, security, or other animal facility monitoring and management requirements.
  16. Provide proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and facilities as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and ACUC protocols and assist in the SOP review process.
  17. Assists in any contract related activity, as assigned by your supervisor, to complete the required work.
  18. Understands and follows all approved SOP's and Quality Assurance Standards for animal care.
  19. Familiar with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals used in the work area.
  20. Cares for and maintains laboratory animals in accordance with Animal Welfare Act and the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals: ILAR publication, eighth edition.
  21. Prepares and submits required written records, charts, logs and inventories as requested by your supervisor.
  22. Weekend, holiday and after hours’ work is required as necessary to meet operational needs of the work site.


  1. High School diploma or GED, B.S. preferred
  2. Literate in written and spoken English
  3. American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Laboratory    Animal Technologist (LATG) level

The trainer will work in all aspects of the laboratory environment and be exposed to both hot and humid areas. They will work outdoors or indoors depending on the facility. They will have to wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: hair bonnet, shoe covers, scrubs, mask, gloves, Tyvek jump suit etc., as required by the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Additionally, they will be exposed to ABSL1-3 depending on the facility.
