Position Summary:

The Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) group at Princeton University is a centralized administrative department reporting to the Dean for Research and is responsible for animal and veterinary care of all research animals at Princeton University. The Procurement Coordinator reports to Business Manager and supports all managers within LAR department. The primary responsibility is to process all orders in timely fashion using PeopleSoft Financial System or as procedures dictate, manage schedules and calendars of management staff, complete Concur submissions by the due date for all Travel and Purchasing Cards within the department, complete cage card entries weekly in Elements and enter animal orders daily. Maintain inventory of supplies and reorder goods as needed. Coordinate events and meetings and make sure all necessary equipment are in order prior to meeting. Assist with receiving items from the PNI dock.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Research Investigator Orders:

• Timely order processing including use of the PeopleSoft Financial System, Department Purchasing Card and University forms as procedures dictate for Princeton University Research staff and internal LAR department members.

• Referral of Research staff service requests to appropriate LAR personnel for handling.

• Documentation of Research orders within the Topaz software system as well as printing of weekly delivery reports and cage cards for LAR staff use.

• Enter cage cards weekly accurately in TOPAZ Elements.

Operations / Husbandry and Veterinary Orders:

• Responsible for LAR departmental purchasing of equipment, supplies – PPE, break room supplies, Feed and Bedding, medications, special requests as they come up, work boots, and equipment repair requests.

• Conduct ongoing inventory of break room supplies, reordering as needed and pack away the supplies when received.

Administrative Support:

Able to effectively and efficiently work with Principal Investigators, faculty, administrators, outside vendors and LAR team members as a front-line resource for incoming requests for LAR department support services. Provide general administrative assistance to Business Manager, Director, Associate Director, Staff Veterinarian, Facility Manager, and other LAR Staff including organization of office space and department common areas. Scanning, organizing LAR documents for audit purposes, vendor documents and invoices, credit card documents, and other business documents. Organize and distribute mail. Arrange travel and prepare travel and expense reports. Assist with receiving items from the various LAR facility docks.

Schedule meetings and training seminars including tracking and maintaining reports of attendance. Room preparation and clean-up; setting up computer, phone, and projector support. Preparing agendas, handouts and electronic materials for meetings and travel. Formatting and editing standard operating procedures using Word and Adobe Acrobat. Exhibit a willingness to assume additional responsibilities and other duties as assigned.

JOB TITLE: ICU Veterinary Technician I

Summary

Under the direction of the Sr. Veterinary Technician or Facility Veterinarian, the Veterinary Technician shall primarily be responsible for daily rounds, preliminary health exams of sick animals, reporting to the veterinarians, examination of all incoming animals for overt signs of illness, and assistance with the animal surveillance program for various large animal species (rodents, ungulate, NHP). This person must be knowledgeable of veterinary medical terminology, animal treatment, nursing, and observations and communicating abnormal or poor health. Requirements

Duties

Position Summary: The Office of Research Resources is seeking a departmental coordinator to support our mission, customers, and staff. The Department Coordinator in the Research Resources Department is responsible for supporting various administrative and financial functions. This role involves coordinating invoicing, resolving billing discrepancies, managing census data, analyzing data, and maintaining financial records. The coordinator will also oversee communications with vendors, manage preventative maintenance contracts, handle purchase order requisitions, and approve larger invoices. The position will directly report to the Business Manager and work on various tasks assigned by the management team.

Key Responsibilities:

Department Support: The coordinator will manage census data, ensuring its accuracy and completeness. This includes verifying and managing data, as well as reporting on financials, revenue, and expenses. They will also maintain up-to-date PI protocol information and serve as the a point of contact for vendors, managing communications and maintaining positive relationships. Additionally, the coordinator will oversee preventative maintenance contracts to ensure timely and efficient service.

Financial Administration: The coordinator will administer the monthly invoicing process, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure timely payment of invoices. JOB TITLE:      Assistant Project Manager II-NHP

Under the direction of the Project Manager, Veterinarians, and DVS Management, the NHP Assistant Project Manager ensures the FDA White Oak Animal Program contract is properly managed and that effective oversight is provided to all NHP staff. This position is responsible for the daily oversight and training assurance of NHP Caretakers, Veterinary Technicians, Quarantine, Diagnostic Imaging, and Surgery Support personnel.

The NHP Assistant Project Manager takes ownership of area operations and error resolution — in coordination with Project Managers — to ensure daily contractual obligations are met. Responsibilities include maintaining budgets, reports, performance records, and area documentation, and submitting all required documentation to satisfy contract requirements. This role also encompasses coaching, directing, training, and managing the performance of all NHP personnel. The Assistant Project Manager always maintains a professional appearance and demeanor during business functions.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Work assignments are based on contract requirements and may include the following duties:

  • Provide competent management, organization, direction, and oversight to all positions in the NHP area.
  • Demonstrate veterinary technical proficiency and ensure all Veterinary Technicians are appropriately trained in veterinary care and technical procedures across multiple NHP species, as required by SOPs and Program Veterinarians.

Requirements

Duties:

JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Veterinarian provides veterinary support to Division of Veterinary Resources laboratory animal programs consistent with DVR guidelines. The primary responsibility shall be the provision of veterinary medical and surgical care for non-human primates (NHP) and rodents. Participation in the veterinary medical care program for other various animal species is included as a smaller component of the duties of the position. Clinical Veterinarian responsibilities include providing daily clinical care and treatment of the laboratory animals; participation in emergency call schedule and after-hours veterinary care, ICU night, weekend, and holiday coverage with other veterinarians as required.  All services must be provided in accordance with all applicable regulations.

 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  1. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent required.
  2. Must have a license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one (1) state.
  3. Minimum three (3) years’ experience required in clinical laboratory animal medicine which must include non-human primates (NHPs).
  4. Completion of a residency program in laboratory animal medicine and certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) is preferred.

Summary

The Animal Health Technician II will provide surgical, technical, and clinical support services under the direction of the Senior Animal Health Team Leader or respective Animal Health Technician III. Requirements

Duties

  • Adhere to established Bldg 49 Standard Operating Procedures.

JOB TITLE: Veterinary Technician II - NHP, FDA White Oak Animal Program

Summary:

The Veterinary Technician shall be at the minimum certified at the AALAS LAT level at the time of employment and be LATG within the first year of employment. IACUC Coordinator II

Primary Functions

The IACUC Coordinator II provides technical and administrative coordination for the White Oak Animal Program (WOAP) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), supporting regulatory compliance, protocol management, and program oversight.

Protocol Management & Review

  • Manage the full lifecycle of Animal Study Protocol (ASP) submissions — from administrative pre-review through approval — coordinating with investigators, veterinarians, IACUC members, and the IACUC Chair to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise investigators and committee members on applicable regulations and guidelines, including the Animal Welfare Act, PHS Policy, AVMA Euthanasia Guidelines, and the ILAR Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Meeting & Documentation Management

  • Prepare and distribute monthly meeting materials, record and summarize committee deliberations, and ensure meeting minutes and IACUC actions are documented and communicated to relevant parties in a timely manner.

The candidate must have an M.S. or B.S. and a minimum of five years’ experience in laboratory animal research environment. The preferred candidate will have experience with procedures in husbandry and veterinary technical support with mixed laboratory animal species and an emphasis on non-human primates. Candidates should have knowledge of operational principles behind techniques and procedures used in animal enrichment and behavior analysis. Accurate and timely data/sample collection, record keeping, data processing and critical thinking skills are a must. Knowledge of math and science through education or demonstrated experience. Good English, oral and written communication skills are required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb, stoop, bend, reach, sit and stand for prolonged periods. Must be responsible and reliable to work independently when necessary and maintain harmonious client and team relationships.

Duties

  1. Support with the development and improvement of behavior and enrichment programs.
    1. Ensuring all species are monitored and observed for behaviors that have an effect on welfare and study requirements.
    1. Perform social introductions for animals housed in research facilities (NHPs, canines, swine, rabbits, guinea pigs).
    1. Perform behavioral evaluations; treat animals as necessary (in conjunction with veterinary staff). 
    1. Complete behavior assessments and document results into animal health records.

    1. Conduct staff training to ensure enrichment procedures are followed for individual species.
    1. Contribute to the development and implementation of the enrichment program including new procedures and devices.

Facility Trainer I NIH/DVR

Summary

Under the direction of the Training Coordinator and program managers, the responsibilities of the Division of Veterinarian Resources (DVR) Facility Trainer are to execute a continuous training plan for each position on the DVR contract in accordance with the approved Standard Operating Procedures.  Facility Trainer will ensure contract employees are trained in the activities required for the proper care and maintenance of DVR animals and equipment as described in each job description, assigned ASP, SOP, and Priority One Services’ Employee Training Plan.

Requirements:

B.S. degree in biology, animal science, or similar discipline preferred, and or AALAS certification (LATG), ILAM, CMAR. LAT will be considered but LATG must be obtained within 1 year of employment. The Facility Trainer(s) must possess a working knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry with multiple species including non-human primates, veterinary technology, and facility management. Proven ability and demonstrated work experience developing lesson plans, preparing technical presentations, workshops, or seminars;  prior teaching experience a plus. Must be literate in English, both oral and written, and proficient in computer applications, to include, but not limited to Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Outlook. Knowledge of photo/imaging software is also advantageous.

Duties

  • Providing training resources and materials to support and supplement continuing education and technical seminars for each employee.
  • Implement a training plan for each position on the contract in accordance with the approved SOPs.
  • Providing continuous technical training, in multiple departments, to include but not limited to training on SOPs, animal husbandry, safety procedures and facility-specific requirements.
  • Ensuring newly hired, promoted, or reassigned employees receive proper orientation, training, curriculum, and guidance, leading to a knowledge/technical assurance for unsupervised work.
  • Developing computerized technical training modules, slide presentations, and videos.
  • Providing support for AALAS certification and maintaining certification data/documentation by employees.
  • Maintaining a database of training curriculum received by each employee.
  • Perform annual performance reviews directly observing each employee to ensure that they maintain their technical competence.
  • Ensuring all training deliverables are prepared/submitted as per Task Order requirements.
  • Assuming the responsibilities of the Training Coordinator when the Training Coordinator is absent.
  • Performing duties or tasks delegated from contract or Government management.
  • Assisting the Training Coordinator with the OA/QC program.
  • Assisting the Training Coordinator to ensure that all safety requirements are met; and
  • Assisting the management team in team building exercises.
